I had taken several years off of regular karate training, at least partly due to accessibility. At the start of 2026, I found a local community center class of predominately Shorin Ryu Karate, headed by David Sensei with Frank Sensei as second.

Being a new school, I started over as a white belt, but Shotokan is derivative from Shorin Ryu (as I understand it), so although it is different school from my previous karate training, it is significantly similar making my uptake and integration quite rapid.
